After
developing the film, do not to let the developer run off the film and
into the tank. The used chemicals will break down the developing
solution more quickly. Take the film directly out of the developer and
immerse it in the wash tank. After rinsing thoroughly and fixing the
film, it is acceptable to let the fixer drain back into the fixer tank.
After
fixing, allow the film to wash completely for five minutes. Let the film
dry completely in a dust free area, not touching other films or
surfaces. Proper film processing techniques will guarantee a quality
archival film.
AUTOMATIC PROCESSING IN A DARKROOM
Automatic processors can save valuable time for employees allowing them
to work with patients rather than monitoring manual film processing.
Processors can also automatically replenish chemicals to keep them fresh
and active throughout the week. But an automatic processor still
requires daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance to keep it working
properly.
AUTOMATIC PROCESSING WITH A DAYLIGHT LOADER
An automatic processor with a daylight loader is beneficial to a small
office without space available for a darkroom. A daylight loader is a
light-tight box attached to the front of a processor to allow loading
and unloading of film. Processors with a daylight loader should not be
placed in an area under direct lighting. A daylight loader has limited
space and may require time to maneuver the box of film, a cassette, and
intensifying screens inside the loader.
To make
loading film easier, it is recommended that a bathroom, lab or private
office be converted to darkroom equipped with a safelight. The process
of unloading the cassette in the daylight loader is much easier if a box
of film is not incorporated into the process and loading the cassette is
done in an area with ample space.
